FOLX Health was established in response to the failing healthcare system for LGBTQ patients, where stigma, discrimination, and violence are prevalent. The shortage of LGBTQ-competent clinicians and limited access to quality healthcare lead to significant barriers for LGBTQ individuals, including difficulties in finding primary care or mental health providers—one in four patients reports having to educate their providers about their needs. Many delay accessing care, face refusal of services, and encounter harassment or violence from healthcare providers, with 22% of transgender patients and 7% of LGB patients reporting such experiences. These challenges contribute to increased physical and mental health risks and poorer clinical outcomes compared to cisgender, heterosexual populations. Consequently, there is a critical need for employers to provide benefits that facilitate access to high-quality, cost-effective LGBTQ-competent healthcare to address the unmet needs of this growing community.
