Healthy Team, founded in 2014 by NAL Insurance, a disability insurer in the trucking industry, emerged from NAL's desire to manage rising claims costs without increasing premiums. To address this challenge, they developed the Healthy Team App and Corporate Challenge, aimed at promoting health among their 8,000 trucking company clients and reducing group benefits expenses. The Healthy Team Challenge led to significant improvements, as clients experienced weight loss, decreased medical expenses, and enhanced productivity. As a result, insurance premiums began to stabilize due to fewer injury and illness claims and reduced time off work. In May 2017, the first official Healthy Team Corporate Challenge launched with the mobile app, providing a platform for participants and companies to connect and share healthy lifestyles. A key insight from this initiative was that sharing diet and exercise experiences proved to be socially contagious, encouraging participants to adopt healthier habits by observing their coworkers and friends.
