Founded in 2011 by orthopedic surgeons during their residency at the University of Pennsylvania, SimpleTherapy emerged from the realization that patients often undergo surgery before exploring effective, non-invasive treatments like physical therapy. Our mission is to provide early intervention that is easily accessible, straightforward, highly personalized, and aligned with best practices proven to alleviate pain swiftly. Extensive peer-reviewed research indicates that many musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions can be effectively managed or resolved through early, conservative approaches such as exercise therapy. However, a staggering 77% of physical therapy prescriptions go unfilled, and only 30% of those who start therapy complete their treatment. This low adherence leads to worsening symptoms, increased reliance on higher levels of care, unnecessary surgeries, and significantly higher costs per patient. Factors such as high co-pays, the need to take time off work multiple times a week, and other inconveniences contribute to this issue.
